Why Reviewing Utility Quotes Can Save More Than £1 Million
A Cringleford, Norfolk project shows how independent review of ICP quotations and Point of Connection options can unlock major savings and reduce delivery risk.
One of the most common misconceptions we encounter is that once utility quotations have been received, the opportunity to make significant savings has passed.
A recent project in Cringleford, Norfolk proves otherwise.
Prior to our appointment, the client had already obtained multiple quotations from Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) for both the electrical and water new supplies associated with the development.
The proposed electric Point of Connection was located approximately 500 metres from the site, with estimated utility costs in the region of £500,000.
Following a detailed review of the available options, we engaged with the relevant network operators and successfully secured a revised Point of Connection immediately adjacent to the site boundary.
We then completed a full competitive tender review to ensure the client received the most commercially advantageous solution available.
The outcome delivered benefits far beyond simply reducing costs:
✅ Point of Connection secured immediately adjacent to the development
✅ Reduced off-site connection works
✅ Reduced on-site installation costs
✅ Enhanced scope of works to minimise future variation risk
✅ Improved commercial certainty and delivery confidence
💰 ICP contract cost reduction of over £1 million
The greatest compliment? Following the success of this project, the client has continued to expand our appointment and we are now supporting them on a fourth development.
That is the value of independent utility consultancy, ensuring clients receive the right solution, not just the first solution.
